Long Island school elections, 2021-22 Print Email School district residents go to the polls on May 18 to vote on budgets and members of their local boards for the coming school year. Below are the details on the ballots in 124 districts. Results will be posted here as they become available. Read our full coverage of the results here. The Great Neck, Lawrence, Hewlett-Woodmere and West Hempstead districts received permission from the state to hold voting on May 11, before the statewide date of May 18, which is also the date of the Jewish holiday Shavuot. April 30, 2021 By Waterways Journal Custom Dredge Works (CDW), based in Topeka, Kan., has announced the launch of a new 14-inch electric chain-ladder cutter suction dredge to mine sand and gravel for Winter Bros. Material Company, a third-generation, family-owned business celebrating its 75th birthday this year.  Winter Brothers, one of the top producers of Meramec River sand and gravel in the region, recently opened a new sand mining operation on the west bank of the Meramec just outside of Arnold, Mo.  The new operation is now well underway with the christening and launch of the new dredge designed and built by CDW specifically for the unique mining requirements of the mine’s Meramec aggregate deposit.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on bars and restaurants nationwide, it apparently hasn’t dampened local entrepreneurs’ drive to open new restaurants or the Des Moines community’s desire to patronize them. “If this pandemic has shown us anything, it’s how much people love great food,” said Joe Tripp, owner and chef at Harbinger and soon-to-be restaurant Basic Bird Korean Fried Chicken, which currently operates out of the Harbinger space. “I think customers still have a desire to go out, and if anything it’s stronger than ever.”
