This winter, Iowa City community members have put their heads together to figure out ways to give back during a year when non-profit organizations   and those they support   need assistance more than ever before. 2020 was very exhausting for people, so we thought this might be something to put a smile on people s faces, Ryan O Leary, an Iowa City native and member of the Iowa City Noon Optimist Club, a local service organization, told the Press-Citizen this week. The drive that O Leary and others organized is named  The Giving Tree,  in honor of Shel Silverstein s 1964 book. Since Nov. 27, the drive has raised more than $30,000  $20,000 of which came from Randy s Flooring and was dedicated to Houses into Homes, an Iowa City-based non-profit that helps lift people out of homelessness.
