Ripley City Council, safety progress, support for Main Street Ripley

Suzette Lowe There was much to celebrate at the April 6 meeting of the Ripley City Council. The Ripley High School archery team was recognized for its winning the West Virginia state archery championship for the 14th year in a row. Coach Roy Bennett and Assistant Coach Clarence Canterbury spoke about the dedication of their team members. With the challenge that the health pandemic forced onto sports, this victory was especially meaningful. “It was a different format,” said Bennett. “These kids are used to shooting against someone, but this year it was a virtual tournament. They really stepped up.” Canterbury said that he and Bennett had coached many of these students in middle school.

Clarence F. Full Clarence F. Full, 91 ,of Davisville, WV, departed this life April 12, 2021, born Jan. 21, 1930, to Okey and Della Full in Terra Alta, WV. He attended schools in Wirt and Jackson counties, and was a 1948 graduate of Ripley High School, where he played football. Clarence served his country in the 82nd U.S. Army Airborn. Retired employee of E.I. Dupont with over 30-year service, served on the board of Wood Co. Sports Assn., coached baseball in Bronco, Pony and Colt leagues for fourteen years. He helped on Habitat houses, played golf and bowled in several leagues. Clarence enjoyed playing his harmonica and guitar.

White Elementary where the children knew her as Grandmother Della. For more than 13 years, Myers worked as a volunteer foster grandmother with at-risk and special needs children in the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools system. It was a job she treasured and what she was most proud of during the time she was able to serve, said John Myers, her only son and the elder of her two children.

(AP) - Three West Virginia schools have taken top honors in the Archery in the Schools state tournament. The tournament was held in a virtual format last week due to the coronavirus pandemic. About 770 students from 51 schools participated. Each participant shot 30 arrows at targets from two distances. Scores were submitted online. Awards were presented to the top three teams and the top 10 male and female individuals in each division, along with the top two overall male and female archers.
