3 Sophomores, Eryn McEndree, Leah Chung, and Margaret Orr, won first place.
Many other students were able to place in the top 10 in 7 events.
Students were asked to design a device to empower a community.
The students designed a water filter for the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa to drink water safely.
“I think the school is really proud and happy. They support us. They’re very supportive. They’re always willing to provide resources and help us in any way they can.”
“It was really overwhelming honestly. Usually we would experience it in person and get our award right there.”

Congressman Jason Smith is pleased to announce Skyler Todd from Thayer High School as the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition.
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide art competition to recognize artistic talent in each Congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 students have participated nationwide.Todd will get a chance to travel to Washington, DC to be celebrated at an awards ceremony and view his artwork hanging in the US Capitol, where it will be displayed and viewed by thousands over the next year.
