Governor Northam Announces Over $24 Million in Affordable and Special Needs Housing Loans Posted by Staff | Mar 2, 2021 | News | | RICHMOND Governor Ralph Northam today announced more than $24 million in Affordable and Special Needs Housing loans for 28 projects across the Commonwealth, creating or preserving 1,635 affordable housing units for low-income Virginians. (WWBT) - Golden Nugget Hotels & Casinos announced its submission to expand the Golden Nugget brand into the Virginia market. The company will be developing a $400 million Golden Nugget Richmond Hotel & Casino and donating over $70 Million to the Richmond Community and creating over 1,200 jobs for the city. It will take 36 months to complete. The targeted location for the project will be within the City of Richmond and is located six miles from Downtown and 20 miles from Richmond International Airport.

( Courtesy of Genesis Properties) On the heels of a $15 million apartment rehab it completed in the city’s Northside, a Richmond developer is moving forward with its next round of upgrades to more of its lower-income housing stock this time south of the river. Genesis Properties is getting ready to start construction on the first two of three apartment rehabs it’s planning over the next few years. The three properties, totaling 295 garden-style townhome units, are on nearly contiguous parcels in the city’s Broad Rock area, at the southwestern end of Maury Street just west of Maury Cemetery.

Ralph Northam and Dr. Danny Avula, who’s heading the state’s vaccination efforts, blamed lagging data for the state’s seemingly slow vaccine rollout Thursday. Speaking at a mass vaccination event for pre-registered essential workers, Avula said vaccine providers in Virginia don’t immediately submit data to the state. He said once all data is reported, Virginia will rise up the national rankings, which it currently sits near the bottom of.

Mayor Stoney Mayor Levar M. Stoney sees bright prospects ahead for Richmond if COVID-19 can be defeated quickly. Ready to start his second four-year term next week, he has ideas galore, but he said the key to it all is “vaccination.” He is counting on the federal government to rapidly roll out the injectable medications so that the broader population can be treated and gain immunity so there can be a return to normalcy. In an interview, Mayor Stoney said in an effort to counter community misgivings, he plans to be first in line when one or more of the approved vaccines becomes widely available. He said that he will join the city health department in pushing for everyone to get the shots and in seeking to counter misinformation.
