Monmouth College emeritus professor of history David Suda dies

Daily Review Atlas MONMOUTH  David Suda, a Monmouth College professor widely acclaimed by his colleagues and former students as a Renaissance man, died Feb. 27 at the age of 77 at his Sarasota, Florida, home. Suda officially taught in the College s department of history, but he was listed in the course catalog as a professor of humanities, also teaching courses in philosophy, religious studies, art and music. A skilled musician, Suda was the violinist in the Knox-Galesburg Symphony Trio, playing alongside his wife, Monmouth music instructor Carolyn Suda, and the symphony s conductor, Bruce Polay. In thanking Suda for his 23 years as concertmaster of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Polay wrote, From my view, David Suda has always been an exceptionally intelligent, well-schooled advocate for bringing great music to life.

Socks donated to homeless charity by supermarket customers

Aldi customers donated socks as part of the supermarket’s ‘Not Socks Again’ appeal which supported the vital work of three homelessness charities – Aberdeen Cyrenians, Simon Community Scotland and Trust in Fife. Big-hearted Aldi shoppers donated more than 2,000 unused pairs of socks to the supermarket’s homelessness appeal. Sock Amnesty boxes were placed in all 96 Scottish Aldi stores between Boxing Day and the end of January for customers to drop off any extra and unused socks they received over Christmas. Emma Bellu, fundraising and community manager at Aberdeen Cyrenians, said: “This is a brilliant result and we can’t thank Aldi’s incredibly generous customers enough.

Aldi confirm Haddington Gateside store to open in second half of year

HADDINGTON’S new Aldi store will open its doors to customers in the second half of the year. The supermarket giant has confirmed it plans to open several new stores in Scotland during 2021, which will see the number of stores across the country reach 100. The new East Lothian store will be based at Gateside Commerce Park on the town’s western edge and will replace its existing store off Whittingehame Drive, which will close. Aldi also plans to create a further 600 jobs, including 150 roles in its new stores, in a boost to local communities throughout the country.
