SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ The Middlesex County Association of School Administrators joined their counterparts from neighboring school districts in urging Gov. Phil Murphy to prioritize vaccinating teachers and school staff.
The association said it was compelled to write to Murphy as they felt school staff and faculty were not being administered the with COVID-19 vaccine fast enough, to allow schools to provide students with a safe learning environment. Sayreville student athletes quarantine after reports of positive COVID-19 tests
SAYREVILLE – Student athletes who tested positive for coronavirus while participating in athletic programs at Sayreville School District facilities have been directed to quarantine.
In a Feb. 1 notice, Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe said that one individual from the Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS), one individual participating in an athletic program at the high school, and two individuals participating in an athletic program at the Sayreville Middle School (SMS) recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Multiple individuals were determined to be in close contact with the two positive cases from the program at the middle school, according to Labbe. Two individuals were determined to be in close contact with the positive case from the high school’s program. He said that these individuals should have been formally notified by the time of his notice.

SAYREVILLE – Four departing members of the Sayreville Board of Education have been recognized for their service.
The board’s Dec. 15 meeting marked the final appearance of Phyllis Batko, Christopher Callahan, Danielle Pieloch and Karen Rubio as members of the school’s governing body. Their terms will officially end on Dec. 31.
Batko and Rubio did not seek re-election in the Nov. 3 race, while Callahan and Pieloch were unsuccessful in winning an available three-year term on the ballot.
Alison Napolitano, Eloy Fernandez and Eileen Pabon won the three-year terms in the Nov. 3 election, as certified by Middlesex County on Nov. 20. Patrick Walsh won a one-year, unexpired term as a write-in candidate.

Sayreville schools increase remote learning days
SAYREVILLE – Administrators in the Sayreville School District have increased the amount of days where students will receive fully remote instruction in December.
Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe announced in a Dec. 14 notice that Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 would become fully remote days for all students. Previously, students were scheduled to receive in-person instruction on these days.
During the 2020-21 school year, because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many Sayreville students have been receiving their education in a hybrid model that consists of in-person instruction and remote instruction. Two cohorts of students have been attending school on alternating days.
