Three Mat North Chiefs In Fierce Boundary Disputes

By Matabeleland North Correspondent GWAYI: A boundary dispute has erupted among three chiefs in Matabeleland North with critics saying the row was tribal and politically motivated. The contested areas are in Dete between Chief Dingani-Nelukoba and Chief Nekatambe, both of Hwange district, and in Gwayi area between Chief Dingani-Nelukoba and Menyezwa of Lupane. Chief Dingani, whose chieftainship has Ndebele roots, reportedly adopted the name Nelukoba when he allocated part of his land to the Nambyas, hence the name Nelukoba from kukoba (to share in the local Nambya language). Chief Dingani is one of five Hwange chiefs namely, Nekatambe, Wange, Shana and Mvuthu.

Byo residents petition over unfinished dam BY SILAS NKALA BULAWAYO residents have petitioned the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) over water shortages, demanding to know when the Gwayi-Shangani Dam would be completed in order to address the perennial water problems in the city. A total of 83 residents affiliated to Matabeleland Institute for Human Rights (MIHR) and the Water Action Group in Bulawayo, on Monday, wrote individual petitions to Zinwa raising issues pertaining to water rights. The Water Action Group is currently engaged in a social media protest over water shortages, which started on January 25, and is scheduled to end on March 22.

The past three consecutive drought years have worsened her plight because neighbours she used to depend on also harvested virtually nothing.
