£274-million training boost for RAF
Pilots and engineers who operate the UK’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft are to benefit from world-leading interactive training, following a £274-million contract award.
Awarded for the next 19 years, the contract with Boeing Defence UK will provide unique synthetic training courses for RAF personnel who operate the aircraft until 2040 and will support around 30 UK jobs at the International Training Centre (ITC) in Farnborough.
Alongside the continued training for pilots on the interactive C-17 flight simulators, from 2023 RAF trainees will also benefit from two new pieces of equipment in a purpose-built facility. Maintainers will be provided with engineering training so they can diagnose faults and practice repairs without having to work on the live aircraft.

MPs have warned they will be extremely disappointed if the PM fails to produce a plan to reform adult social care in England by the end of the year.
The cross-party Commons health and social care committee said the lack of funding detail could undermine plans to integrate health and care services.
The government has been asked for a response.
But they say it is an omission to fail to give full details about the reform.
Boris Johnson had originally promised to fix the system when he became prime minister in July 2019 and has said he will bring forward proposals later in the year .

The Queen s Speech to officially reopen Parliament promised legislation to empower the NHS to innovate and embrace technology.
In the speech to the House of Lords yesterday, she delivered the government’s plans for a pandemic recovery that would beat COVID-19 and back the NHS.
“My ministers will bring forward legislation to empower the NHS to innovate and embrace technology. Patients will receive more tailored and preventative care, closer to home,” Her Majesty said.
A background briefing on the speech to Parliament the Queen said the Health and Care Bill will “lay new foundations for a more integrated and efficient health and care system”, enabling staff to focus on delivering the best possible treatment and care for their patients and giving the NHS and local authorities tools to “level up health and care across England”.
