Kohl Stewart was dominating over four innings of work. Unfortunately, he came out to pitch the fifth inning and wasn’t quite so good, giving up a three-run home run to Nick Gordon and a solo home run to Brent Rooker.
The final line for Stewart was four runs on five hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out three.
Dakota Mekkes pitched two strong innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and one walk. He struck out two.

Kohl Stewart got his first start in the Cubs organization and was pretty darn dominating over five innings. He allowed one run on one hit and walk walk. He struck out nine. The one hit was a triple down the right field line, just like on Thursday night against Cory Abbott.

Charleston, SC The Charleston RiverDogs went 3-19 with runners in scoring position, but found a way to hold off a late charge by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to earn a 6-5 win on Thursday night at The Joe. With the victory, the RiverDogs opened the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2012.
For the third consecutive night, it was the RiverDogs that jumped ahead. They took advantage of some wildness from Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Sam Thoresen to do much of the damage. The right-hander walked four of the seven batters he faced in the inning, including two with the bases loaded, to give the RiverDogs a 2-0 lead. On September 14, 2019, the South Bend Cubs beat the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 to sweep the best-of-five series three games to none and claim the Midwest League title. Five hundred and eighty-eight days later, on Tuesday, May 4, there will be Cubs teams playing minor league baseball again.
At last viewing, the Iowa Cubs were in the middle of dropping the conference title series after winning their conference in the Pacific Coast League’s regular season. What we didn’t know then, of course, was that a novel coronavirus would begin to spread overseas a few months later, reaching the United States after the turn of the new year, and taking so much down with it, including the 2020 minor league season.
That Iowa Cubs playoff series was just over 600 days ago. The last Minor League Baseball we saw. Think about how long it’s been.
Minor League Baseball returns, finally, tomorrow.
