Letter to the Editor: We DO need zebra crossings

By Letters to the Editor Send us your views on the week s news Christchurch resident Lauire Phillips painted a temporary zebra crossing in Chichester Road I WOULD like to congratulate Laurie Phillips painting a very professional zebra crossing in his busy road for the good of the community and embarrassing the council. Years ago I was trying to get a crossing provided at the Ringwood Road and Parkstone Heights junction after watching school children dodging cars, trying to get across to the shops, and was told by the then traffic manager ‘it’s our job to keep the traffic moving not slow it down, we know what we’re doing’, end of conversation.

At the time of being published, the latest site requirements brochure lists more than 1,000 locations across Great Britain where the retailer wants to build a new shop or relocate an existing store. Lidl has a target of having 1,000 stores across England, Wales and Scotland by the end of 2023. A year ago the firm was well on the way to achieving this as it crossed the 800-store mark. In Dorset, the German chain already has many stores and it wants to expand on this.

Ringwood Road closed at Bear Cross roundabout in Bournemouth

The Bear Cross roundabout in Bournemouth PART of a dual carriageway has been closed to allow Bournemouth Water to fix a leaking water main. The planned work, between the Bear Cross roundabout and Clock Garage roundabouts in Ringwood Road, has led to the road closure and diversions. A spokesman for Bournemouth Water told the Daily Echo: We are carrying out planned work to locate a leaking water main on Ringwood Road, Bournemouth. In agreement with Highways England we have closed the northbound and southbound carriageways on the road. This is due to the positioning of five large diameter water mains located in the road, and to protect our operators so we can safely excavate the area to find the leak.
