LIBERTY, Mo. (AP) â A powerful Kansas lawmaker accused of drunken driving had a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit and taunted the Highway Patrol officer who arrested him last month for allegedly speeding the wrong way on an interstate, according to documents released Thursday.
Senate Majority Leader Gene Suellentrop faces five counts, including a felony fleeing to avoid arrest and a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge stemming from the Wichita Republicanâs arrest March 16 on Interstate 70 in Topeka.

Senate Majority Leader Gene Suellentrop had a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit when he allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 70 while under the influence, according to affidavits obtained Thursday.
The documents give more insight into events during the early morning hours of March 16, when Suellentrop was stopped and arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol after allegedly evading law enforcement during a short pursuit.
In sworn testimony, the officer who stopped Suellentrop alleged he made physical threats while a blood test to determine his inebriation was conducted.

The majority leader of the Kansas Senate, who was arrested last month for allegedly speeding and driving the wrong way on a divided highway, called a police officer, who tried to test his blood alcohol levels, “donut boy,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The affidavit, which detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Senator Gene Suellentrop, was obtained Thursday by CNN affiliate WIBW.
On March 16, police received several calls about a white SUV that was driving in the wrong direction on I-470 near the Burlingame Road exit in Topeka, according to the Office of the District Attorney, Third Judicial District of Kansas’ news release.
