Chef Daniel Boulud brings new talent to his Palm Beach restaurant

There’s someone new helming the kitchen at Café Boulud Palm Beach, the first restaurant famous French chef Daniel Boulud ever opened outside of New York City.
Chef Dieter Samijn replaces Rick Mace, who left to open Tropical Smokehouse in West Palm Beach. Samijn was plucked from Boulud’s Manhattan French bistro Bar Boulud on the Upper West Side, where he has been executive chef for two years.

Yet another high-profile chef has opened a restaurant in these trying times, and that just gives us more hope for our restaurant future.
Chef Rick Mace, formerly of Café Boulud for years, is now working the smoker as well as being part owner at Tropical Smokehouse in West Palm Beach. His goal is to spotlight Florida’s barbecue heritage of smoked fish, pork and poultry.
The restaurant opened this week and has a menu that includes smoked fish dip (pictured above), burgers, sandwiches (the hot dog medianoche sounds fun!) and desserts. His partner is Jason Lakow, former co-owner of Mazie’s, which was in the same space now occupied by Tropical Smokehouse. No reservations are taken, and there’s no valet parking, but there is a parking lot.
