Riga completes construction of second taxiway and runway renovation Primary tabs 12th May 2021 The innovations are set to improve the efficiency of airport operations and reduce CO2 emissions Riga International has recently completed the construction of its second rapid-exit taxiway, as well as the renovation of part of its runway. The Cohesion Fund Project ‘Development of Secure and Environmentally friendly infrastructure at Riga Airport’ began last summer. By adding an extra taxiway, the movement of aircraft to and from the runway and in the taxiing area is set to be shortened, reducing the amount of time and fuel consumed in land manoeuvres. The total cost of these works came to €2.5m (£2.1m).

With the Support of Bigbank Latvia, Construction of a Hotel Worth 14.9 Million Euros is Underway near Riga International Airport 2021-05-10 Laura Jēgere Resulting from cooperation between Lithuanian asset management company I Asset Management and Bigbank Latvia, a hotel with 189 guest rooms worth 14.9 million euros is being constructed near Riga International Airport. The economy class hotel Hampton by Hilton will be the first global chain hotel in direct vicinity of Riga Airport, and it is expected to open its doors already in the 2nd quarter of 2022. The construction works have been entrusted to Latvian company UBP. The three-star hotel will be located approximately a kilometre away from the airport exit and will thus be easily accessible to transit passengers and late guests. It will be a few minutes’ walk away, saving potential guests the transport fare. After working for almost twenty years in athletic administration at county and provincial level John continued at National level, as a Member of Athletics Ireland Technical Committee, and Member of Athletics Ireland Competition Committee, both of which he chaired.
