A new report finds that the composition of Rhode Island’s small businesses made it one of the most vulnerable to the fiscal devastation of the ongoing pandemic.

The Narragansett police and the Massachusetts State Police are warning people about a scam where callers pose as police. Multiple residents have received a phone call from a person identifying themselves as a Narragansett Police officer and the phone number is spoofed to show the police department s phone number on caller ID, the Narragansett police say in a Facebook post.
The caller then tries to convince their intended victim that they owe money for a warrant or subpoena and must pay immediately, the Narragansett police say.
The DLT says it doesn t know how many Rhode Islanders have received the email or visited the suspicious website. Other states have reported similar phishing scams, and the U.S. Department of Justice recently issued a warning against fake unemployment benefit websites, the DLT says.
The DLT provides the following tips to protect against fraud online:
• Never share sensitive information, such as your Social Security number or banking information, via email or social media.
• If you receive an email that seems to originate from DLT, ensure it is from a dlt.ri.gov email address before responding or clicking any links.
