East Longmeadow animator Sue Nichols Maciorowski to be honored posthumously for work on Disney classics

Disney animator Sue Nichols Maciorowski of East Longmeadow, seen here in 2005, will be awarded posthumously a lifetime achievement award, an Annie, from the International Animated Film Association on April 16 in Los Angeles. She passed away on Sept. 1, 2020.

EAST LONGMEADOW The highest honor in animation will be bestowed posthumously on acclaimed Disney artist Sue Nichols Maciorowski in Los Angeles this spring.
Closer to home, St. Michael’s Parish in East Longmeadow, where she designed theatrical productions and helped at summer Bible camp in recent years, will soon dedicate its community center stage in her honor.

“Fantasy is the one genre that’s never been done especially well,” Peter Jackson told
The Los Angeles Times. “After 100 years of cinema, there’s not a lot of new ground for storytelling. We can all point to great musicals or horror films, but no one’s ever really nailed fantasy. So that’s the challenge. I want to see if I can pull it off.”

The Lion King and The Princess and the Frog. It is also worth noting that he worked with six of the heralded “Nine Old Men.” These animation titans worked closely with Walt Disney himself and Baer made every effort to carry forward their legacy. He helped teach at CalArts and other institutions. Disney Animation put out a statement after word of his passing came through.

The notion that terrible films are often funny for being so inept is certainly applicable in the sci-fi or horror genres. But how can the worst comedies be funny in their failure to be funny? Therein lies the paradox and the reason why bad comedies are usually just plain bad.
Nevertheless, it s been said that anything worth doing is worth doing badly comedy is certainly no exception. With this in mind, Stacker compiled IMDb and Metacritic data on all comedy movies with more than 2,500 votes on IMDb and ranked them by Stacker score, an equally weighted index between Metascore and IMDb user rating, with #1 being the worst. Ties were broken by Metascore and further ties were broken by IMDb user rating. If a movie did not have a Metascore, it was not considered.
