Novo Nordisk A/S: Novo Nordisk to initiate phase 3a development in obesity with oral semaglutide
21 April 2021 - Novo Nordisk today announced the decision to enter phase 3a development in obesity with oral semaglutide 50 mg. The decision follows the completion of the STEP phase 3a clinical programme with once-weekly subcutaneous (sc) semaglutide 2.4 mg.
Novo Nordisk intends to initiate a pivotal phase 3a programme with approximately 1,000 people with obesity or overweight with comorbidities. The global 68-week trial is planned for initiation in the second half of 2021 and will investigate the efficacy and safety of oral semaglutide compared to placebo. There is a significant unmet medical need within obesity treatment today. Beijing, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba presented its experience in dentistry, training of professionals and the promotion of oral health at a forum on the subject taking place in Shijiazhuang, the capital city of northern Hebei province, in China.
Yamira Palacios, head of the Cuban Medical Services Trading Corporation Office and the Medical Brigade in Beijing, and Mariela Garcia, national director of Stomatology, represented Cuba virtually.
Both reports outlined the strengths of the Cuban healthcare system, the importance given to the prevention of oral problems and the implementation of programs targeted as specific groups and the vulnerable population.

WASHINGTON: The CIA made its first known attempt to assassinate a leader of the Cuban revolution in 1960, offering $10,000 to a pilot flying Raul Castro from Prague to Havana to arrange an accident, according to declassified documents published late on Friday.
Pilot Jose Raul Martinez, who had been recruited by the CIA, asked for and received assurance from the agency that it would provide university educations to his two sons if he died during the operation, according to the documents published by the Washington-based National Security Archive research institute.
After Martinez left for Prague, CIA headquarters in the United States told its Havana station to cancel the mission.
Things have not worked out exactly according to Castro’s plan.
As Castro announced he was stepping down on Friday, his country is deep in crisis. The tourism-dependent island has been battered by the pandemic; the economy shrunk at least 11% in 2020 according to government estimates. Cubans each day spend hours in long lines to find increasingly scarce food, medicine and other necessities.
With then-US President Barack Obama, Castro mended long fraught US-Cuban relations, only to see those ties blown up again under the Trump administration which enacted some of the toughest economic penalties on the island in decades.
But so far, current President Joe Biden has been reluctant to engage with the communist-run island despite the most significant change in leadership in Cuba in decades.
