Heading into the 2020 season, Nate Pearson was primed to be the Blue Jays’ No. 2 starter behind Hyun-Jin Ryu. Pearson made his big league debut on July 29, 2020 against the Washington Nationals, striking out five batters over five innings of work.
It was his best start all season; he only made three more starts the rest of the year. An elbow injury sidelined him for a month until he returned in late September, when he appeared in one regular season game and the Blue Jays’ final game of the season in the postseason.
After the 24-year-old’s latest shoulder injury, it seems like 2021 is playing out similarly as 2020 for the right-handed fireballer.

On what would have been the great Roy Halladay’s 44th birthday, the Jays Care Foundation and the City of Toronto announced that Toronto’s first accessible baseball diamond will be named Roy Halladay Field.
Over 12 seasons in Toronto, the late Halladay was very involved with the community, particularly with children. His “Doc’s Box” initiative hosted children and families from SickKids (The Hospital for Sick Children) to experience Blue Jays games.
“I am very excited for the completion of this amazing, inclusive baseball field. Roy and I had the privilege of meeting countless inspirational kids and their families through SickKids and our program, Doc’s Box,” said Brandy Halladay in a statement. “We often talked about how incredible it would be to have a baseball field where every child could easily be a part of the game that we all love. Roy would be so proud to have his name associated with this project, but he would be even happier to see th

DUNEDIN, Fla (AP) Rhys Hoskins hit a three-run double during a five-run seventh inning and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 on Friday night.
J.T. Realmuto returned to the Phillies starting lineup one day after being placed on the COVID-19-related injured list and drew a bases-loaded walk that made it 1-all in the seventh.
The star catcher went 0 for 4 as the designated hitter. He felt ill and had a fever Wednesday night, but was cleared by MLB to return.
Roy Halladay would have turned 44 today.
Roy was either the best or the second-best Blue Jays starter of all time, depending on who you ask, but there is no doubt he and Dave Stieb are the two best.

Cole Irvin has epitomized the term “crafty lefty” in his first season with the Oakland Athletics. In seven starts covering 41 innings, the 27-year-old former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher has a 3.29 ERA and a 3.54 FIP, and he’s fanned 37 while walking just six. A StatCast darling he’s not. Irvin’s four-seamer averages a pedestrian 91.2 mph, and his fastball and curveball spin rates rank among the lowest in the majors. No matter. Much to the consternation of opposing hitters, the erstwhile Oregon Duck is gobbling up outs with a combination of command, moxie, and guile.
Irvin acquired by the A’s from the Phillies for cash considerations over the offseason discussed his cerebral approach to the art of pitching prior to last night’s game.
