More than 700 people have moved to the island for contractual reasons since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Policy and Reform Minister Ray Harmer was asked by Bill Shimmins (Middle) how many people have gained residency since March 4 by purchasing property in this week’s House of Keys sitting.
Mr Harmer stated that 721 people had taken up Manx residency for contractual reasons, which can include coming to the island to work or if they have a mortgage here. A further 1,748 people entered on compassionate grounds.
Mr Shimmins asked if the numbers were able to be split into how many people had moved for employment and those who have purchased a property, so that members could understand the level of inward migration.

It s after the future of the branch in Port St Mary has been put in doubt after the retirement of the sub-post masters there.
MHK for Rushen and Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson put forward a three-part motion to Tynwald.
It also asked the Council of Ministers to return with proposals by July 2021, to ensure that retail banking services can be provided in local communities outside of Douglas in a way that is equitable to the banking sector and the Manx public.

Tenants could be evicted if behind on their rent from Boxing Day.
It comes as a law brought in through emergency powers during the coronavirus pandemic - which prohibited landlords from evicting tenants over non-payment of rent - ends.
Douglas councillor Devon Watson is calling on government to extend the period of protection for tenants, saying: ’This is both a private and a public sector housing issue.
’In general, throwing people out of their homes, or going down to file an eviction notice a few days after a big Christian holiday, doesn’t feel like it’s fully appropriate.
