The folks running Flying Saucer Draught Emporium in Addison tell its fans “no tears in your beers,” but there are bound to be some sniffles, at least: The 25-year-old beer bar is closing after business on Dec. 31.
Flying Saucer was one of the earliest craft beer bars in North Texas, and its loyal fans, called “beer knurds,” would drive from far and wide to buy rare brews.
The Rowlett Bayside Sailing Club held its third Christmas Boat Parade at Sapphire Bay on Dec. 12.
The Christmas Boat Parade has been a holiday event for boat owners in Rockwall Harbor for the last three years after the idea was introduced to the Bayside Sailing Club.Â
âWe were having our annual meeting and we discussed doing it, but we only had about 25 or 30 boats out there that were active,â Tom Rinkevich said. âWe invited all boats around Lake Ray Hubbard to decorate their boat and come to the parade. In the first year we only had about five to 10 boats.â

On most days, the only animals raising a ruckus in Rowlett are dogs barking This charming community, located 20 miles from downtown Dallas on the banks of Lake Ray Hubbard, has the small-town scenery and vibe that real estate developers extoll in their ads for suburban living.
This is not a place where anyone would expect to encounter a large, predatory animal. So the recent sighting of a mountain lion, including trail camera images of a cat walking between the cars in a home carport, head reaching the passenger window, was frightening for people in the neighborhood. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department confirmed the rare visit from a mountain lion.
