AIBA to offer development grants to members for first time Thursday, 13 May 2021
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has invited its Continental Confederations and National Federations (NFs) to apply for development grants for the first time in its history.
Funds are available for all 203 NFs and all five continental bodies after AIBA signed a major sponsorship agreement with Russian gas giant PJSC Gazprom last month.
Applications for grants can now be made, but they must align with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) objectives.
Each Continental Confederation is eligible to receive up to $500,000 (£356,000/€413,000) while a NF can access a maximum of $20,000 (£14,000/€16,000).

Did you get to go anywhere recently?
‘When I was 17, I left Massachusetts and drove across the country in a car that ultimately wouldn’t make it across the country. Ever since then, I’ve always done at least one road trip a year; it’s the best way to see America. It’s fun, it’s inexpensive and I love being behind the wheel. I didn’t want to break that tradition in 2020 so I did a small loop from LA through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and then back down the coast. Of the 15 years I’ve been doing it, this was definitely the hardest. Generally people were miserable and missing their friends, I got in a car accident, there were forest fires, protests, pandemic quarantines and all the national parks were closed, but it was really nice to be out of the house and in wide open spaces. I did a couple nights on a blueberry farm in Oregon, and stayed on a cannabis farm too – not partaking, just visiting.’
