The decision came at a monthly review meeting of the Power Division chaired by Power Secretary Md Habibur Rahman. The government’s latest decision on coal-fired plants comes after widespread criticism and concerns raised by environmentalists from home and abroad over the years. As per the move, the proposed Moheskhali 1320MW coal-fired power plant, Ashuganj (Patuakhali) 1320MW coal-fired Power Plant and 1200MW Uttarbanga super thermal plant in the public sector may be dropped from the government’s plan.

Mongla Port sees record ship anchoring in December 474 KHULNA, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Mongla Port, the second largest sea harbor of the country, witnessed at least 117 foreign ship anchoring in last December breaking all previous records, said an official. The ship mostly contained car, coal, fertilizer cement clinker, LPG crying vessels, ceramic materials, various raw materials and equipments of Rupur nuclear plant and railway line project etc, he said. In February 2019, MPA witnessed at least 100 foreign ship anchoring and 106 foreign ship anchoring in November, 2020. “The record touched a milestone in the monthly statistics in last seven decades after establishing the port,” the official said.
