âMy ancestors are with usâ: The Yorta Yortaâs fight to restore a pocket of country

Itâs a frigid April afternoon, and Yorta Yorta woman Monica Morgan is walking along the shores of the Barmah Lake, emotions running deep. Sheâs pointing towards an Indigenous massacre site where 26 of her ancestors were brutally killed by colonial troopers, when an ancient river red gum sounds out an alarming creak as a wind squall catches it branches.

Minister for Greater Accra Region, Henry Quartey has cautioned the general public not to pay money to any person who claims he (the Minister) has sent him or her to collect monies for the Ramsar sites in the country.
A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
In ordinary terms, a Ramsar site is a waterprone area reserved to avoid national hazards like floods.
Research indicates the Government of Ghana recently declared five coastal wetlands to be Ramsar sites.
The sites are Muni-Pomadze, Densu Delta, Sakumono, Songor and Keta.
According to the Minister, there are some individuals going round using his name to extort money from innocent Ghanaians.
Earth Day 2021: 10 Environmental Organisations to Help Save Our Planet Share
In conjunction with Earth Day 2021 on 22 April, we’ll be discussing issues and providing resources for change.
It starts with acknowledging the fact that our planet is dying because of us. It’s our greed and expansionist mindset that is directly the cause of degradation of forests, endangerment of animal species, climate change, and many other serious factors that have brought our planet to the critical stage it stands on today.
But we still have time to make amends and do our part in making this world a better place for everyone. And there are people among us who have taken it upon themselves to fight for a better tomorrow. They know, and we too must understand, that the planet is not yours or mine alone; it belongs to all of us. And, therefore, when it comes to preserving it for ourselves and the future generations, we must join hands RIGHT NOW.
