There s a group of small businesses that have recently opened in Alice. The small business venture is a growing trend as family-owned businesses have popped up in the area despite a not-so-great economy as South Texas realigns after the hardships of a challenging post-year after the pandemic.
The 611 Venue on Commerce Street held its first wedding Saturday, April 17 and has softly opened its doors while owner Jaime Flores and partner Henry Perez finish the last details to what they call a South Texas Premiere Event Center.
The elaborate space will cater to weddings and quinceañeras with enough room to occupy much larger events than the average venue. The 611 Venue, is just one of many endeavors the South Texas entrepreneurs have added to their list as area home health agency owners, a property building company, a limousine business and a car wash.

Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) released a statement on his address to the House Committee on transportation and infrastructure for South Texas at the Members’ Day Hearing on Thursday, April 15.
The hearing gives state leaders the opportunity for members of the U.S. House of Representatives to highlight issues of importance to them and their constituents as Congress works to reauthorize surface transportation programs as well as participate in the Committee’s work on all future transportation and infrastructure issues within Committee jurisdiction.

Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Tuesday, April 6 that he filed a lawsuit again the Biden Administration in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The lawsuit is for decrying its refusal to take custody of criminal illegal aliens, including dangerous felons and drug manufacturers, as required by federal law, stated in a report released from Paxton s office.
Texas lawsuit alleges President Biden implemented unlawful directives that allow dangerous illegal aliens already convicted of felony offenses to freely roam the United States.
“President Biden’s outright refusal to enforce the law is exacerbating an unprecedented border crisis. By failing to take custody of criminal aliens and giving no explanation for this reckless policy change, the Biden Administration is demonstrating a blatant disregard for Texans’ and Americans’ safety,” Paxton stated in the report.
