Lowell mayor calls for school committee member Robert Hoey’s resignation after using anti-Semitic slur

Lowell Mayor John Leahy is calling for the resignation of Robert Hoey from the city’s school committee after he used an anti-Semitic slur to describe a former colleague on a live public access television program.
On Thursday, Leahy called for a special joint meeting of the Lowell School Committee and City Council to consider his motion for the immediate resignation of Hoey.
A video clip of a live episode of “City Life,” a show that airs on Lowell public access television, that was first reported by The Jewish Journal, shows Hoey using an anti-Semitic slur in describing the person who used to handle the budget.

In case it wasn’t clear, my tweet is dripping with sarcasm. Almost every time antisemitism appears and I post about it, I am inundated with tweets and comments suggesting criticism of Israel is not antisemitism. Seriously.
But back to the incident. What makes it even worse is after Hoey made the comment, the program continued for another 85 minutes without any guests condemning the slur.
Lowell School Committee member calls former employee a “kike” on live TV
School Committee member Robert Hoey Jr., who referred to a former administrator at the Lowell Public Schools as a “kike” on live cable access TV on Wednesday, announced his resignation on Friday in a video posted on Facebook.
Hoey, who hosts the morning show “City Life” on Lowell Telecommunications Corporation cable access Channel 8, made the statement on the live program at around 6:35 a.m. while discussing school personnel. “We lost the kike, I mean the Jewish guy. I hate to say it but that’s what people used to say behind his back – Gary Frisch … He was the guy in charge of our budget,” said Hoey.
