(LEX 18) â On June 11, Kentucky will be fully open for businesses as that s the day Governor Andy Beshear says all of the state s COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted, including the mask mandate and capacity limitations at events and venues.
But that light at the end of the tunnel is not coming quickly enough for Kentucky s top Republicans. State Senate President Robert Stivers and Republican House Speaker David Osborne are not letting up on Governor Beshear. They say he needs to reopen the state now to help get the economy back on track, writing the following in a joint statement:

In a recent column, Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear sugarcoats his response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Kentucky and attempts to take credit for everything from the state’s finances to vaccine distribution and more, while ignoring his own failures.
Gov. Beshear even tried to claim recognition for reopening schools and businesses even as our students and economy continue to struggle under his executive overreach and unilateral dictates. While puffing himself up for political purposes, it is no surprise the governor ignores his many missteps especially the massive unemployment insurance scandal that his administration created.
Let us set the record straight. Since Republicans gained control of both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly in 2016, under the leadership of Speaker David Osborne and President Robert Stivers, GOP lawmakers have pursued transforming Kentucky into a vision of prosperity.

When a global settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors is settled, Kentucky will allocate half of any proceeds to the state and the other half to local governments â and all of it must be spent to fight the opioid epidemic, under a new law.Â
 It s a victory against the opioid crisis epidemic, Rep. Danny Bentley, R-Russell, sponsor of the legislation, told Kentucky Health News. The bill gets the money to people who need it the most.
