After successfully rescuing a hostage for the U.S. Air Force, superhero Sam Wilson, a.k.a. the Falcon (Anthony Mackie), arrives home in Delacroix, La., to try and help his sister secure a loan. They are attempting to save their parents’ fishing business from its financial troubles, and Sam is convinced that he can grease the wheels with the local bank because of his status as an Avenger.
Instead, what happens is all too familiar to a great number of Americans. The white bank clerk can’t quite place where he knows Sam, a Black man, from, but concludes that he must have “played for LSU.” Sam diplomatically corrects him and eventually the clerk figures out that he is a superhero. Despite asking to take a selfie with him, the clerk still denies Sam and his sister the loan.

In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, a new Captain America takes flight
By The Washington Post
This story contains spoilers about Episode 6 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It was never a matter of if Anthony Mackie was going to become the next Captain America. Just a matter of when.
From the moment Mackie s Sam Wilson was handed the shield by an elderly, time-traveling Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in 2019 s Avengers: Endgame, the clock had been ticking toward the moment Sam would wield the shield as the next star-spangled Avenger.
That moment is now streaming on Disney Plus in the series (or season?) finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In the penultimate episode of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) finally gets back Captain America’s shield and chooses to accept the mantle.
“What would be the point of all the pain and the sacrifice if I wasn’t willing to stand up and keep fighting?” he says before a training montage that shows his growing mastery of the shield.
Since premiering last month, the Disney+ series has explicitly confronted the complicated legacy of what Cap’s shield represents and the complexities of what it means to be a Black hero in America.
