Utica cancels July 4 parade, fireworks for second straight year

Utica cancels July 4 parade, fireworks for second straight year Staff reports The city of Utica has canceled its annual Independence Day parade and fireworks display for the second year in a row due to public health concerns, according to an announcement from Mayor Robert Palmieri s office. The decision came after reviewing New York s latest guidelines on fairs and festivals, which have been allowed to reopen this year with certain safety precautions, as well as discussions with public health officials and event organizers, the announcement states. We were hoping to host a parade and fireworks as in years past and waited as long as we could before making a final determination, Palmieri said in the statement. We are certainly disappointed as this was a very difficult decision, but the health, well-being and safety of our residents is the most important priority.
