China’s embassy in Lithuania said the country’s decision to block a contract for Nuctech X-ray scanners at airports over national security fears “will be a loss to Lithuania”. The safety and reliability of Nuctech equipment is endorsed worldwide,” the embassy said in a written comment, adding that “it will be a loss to Lithuania” and “market fact will prove it”.
Last week, the Lithuanian government decided to block the contract for X-ray baggage scanning equipment at the country’s three main international airports, saying that the data would be available to Chinese intelligence and security services under Chinese law.

America’s ambassador to Lithuania condemned the comments of a parliament member who tried to blame the mass murder during the Holocaust that wiped out 95% of Lithuanian Jewry on the Jews themselves.
“It is shocking that on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, of all days, a member of [the Lithuanian parliament] Seimas should espouse distortions regarding Holocaust collaborators in Lithuania and shamefully seek to accuse Jews of being the perpetrators,” Ambassador Robert Gilchrist said in a statement on the embassy’s twitter account.
