This month, the U.S. Senate is poised to consider legislation that would expand the National Science Foundation (NSF) and strengthen the U.S. science and technology research ecosystem. The heart of the legislation will be the Endless Frontier Act (EFA), a bipartisan and bicameral bill that was first introduced to the previous Congress in May 2020. With some modifications, this legislation could become a landmark achievement that bolsters U.S. competitiveness.
The bill would authorize $100 billion over 5 years for a new Directorate for Technology to support basic science motivated by critical needs, often referred to as “use-inspired” basic research. The initial areas of focus would include artificial intelligence, quantum information sciences, and advanced materials. The establishment did not want to lose control to the Goldwater wing. While Goldwater was not going to win, the establishment wanted to assure themselves the right’s hold on the party was broken. Roscoe, SD: Our husband, father, and grandfather unexpectedly passed away on Dec 26, 2020 while ice fishing.
The funeral service for Eugene Francis Conn, Sr., 81, of Roscoe, SD will be at 9:30 am, Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Paulâs Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roscoe, SD. Seating will be limited at the church due to Covid-19 restrictions, and masks will be required. Burial with Military Rites will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation is 5-7:00 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Gramm Funeral Home in Ipswich, SD.
Eugene was born on October 19, 1939 to Francis and Erna (Brick) Conn near Aberdeen, SD. He was raised on a farm and attended elementary country schools, Simmons Junior High, and Westport High School.
