(WCSC) - Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s chief medical officer says he wants everyone to be vaccinated regardless of previous COVID-19 sickness or not. But when someone gets it could depend on how recently they have recovered from the virus previously. National and local health leaders say once you’ve recovered from COVID-19, chances are you have immunity for a short time thereafter. But with vaccine rollouts ramping up, virus survivors may question when to get their shot.

The Centers for Disease Control have confirmed three coronavirus variant strains from the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil. While none of the new infections have been found in South Carolina yet, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Oliverio said it’s on the mind of healthcare systems to prepare and get ahead of the virus.

(WCSC) - A critical care nurse became the first Trident Health employee to receive the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 Wednesday afternoon. Anthony Sims, who has worked for Trident since 2015, received his first dose of the vaccine shortly after 1 p.m. Trident and Summerville Medical Centers began inoculating their physicians and staff members with the Pfizer COVID vaccine. Trident Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lee Biggs said more than 95% of the health system’s physicians have said they will get vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available.
