(WDBJ) - Three leaders at Amherst Middle School have been named Ambassadors of Kindness by the Virginia Department of Education, Office of the Governor and Amherst County Public Schools. The honors were given at a virtual assembly Tuesday to Principal Mr. Kelly Holmes, Assistant Principal Mr. Matt Giles and Counselor Mrs. Kristin Maddox. The three were nominated by Amherst County Public Schools because of “their ability to personify servant leadership and incorporate daily acts of kindness in every facet of their school community,” according to the district:

Two arrested after allegedly throwing loaded firearm out of vehicle appear in court

According to RCMP, they received a complaint around 5:30 a.m. about multiple gunshots fired at a residence on the 600 block of 3rd Street West in Meadow Lake. No injuries were reported. Officers on patrol located an abandoned Jeep on the east side of Meadow Lake with a window smashed out. A firearm was located inside and seized. While responding to that incident, other RCMP officers stopped a car in the area. During the stop, RCMP observed a loaded firearm being thrown out of the vehicle, which police located in a nearby snow bank. Police charged Arnold and Bouvier with numerous weapons-related offences. They were both charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of firearm with tampered serial number, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, careless use of firearm, flight from police, two counts of possession of firearm while prohibited, and failing to comply with undertaking. Arrests made and lengthy -40C foot chase after multiple firearms incidents - Meadow Lake

On Jan. 23, around 2:30 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a complaint of a shooting at an apartment complex on the 200 block of 2nd Street East in Meadow Lake. An injured adult male was located and transported by EMS to Meadow Lake Hospital and to Saskatoon for further treatment of a gunshot wound. This investigation is ongoing. While attending to the 3rd Street West call, other responding officers pulled over a car in the area. A loaded firearm was observed being thrown out the car window and was located in a nearby snowbank. Two adult males inside were arrested without incident and officers located a second loaded firearm inside.
