South Bay communities will soon have access to a program that dispatches behavioral health experts to emergency calls rather than law enforcement.
The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), which the county launched in January as a pilot program in North County, will be expanded to Chula Vista and National City as the services are gradually made accessible countywide.
The county is expected to award the contract in June, said Sarah Sweeney, a communications officer with the county’s Health and Human Services Agency, adding that the roll-out will take 60 to 90 days.
Chula Vista and National City are drafting memorandums of understanding to define the expectations and responsibilities of law enforcement and the county as it relates to coordination and referrals to the MCRT, said Sweeney.
