Rajkot: Since morning youngsters had lined up at urban health centres in Rajkot to get their first jab of vaccination against Covid-19. As many as 7,698 people in 18-44 years age group got their first dose of vaccine in Rajkot city on Saturday. While the process was smooth in most of the centres, people faced problems like technical glitches and incomplete SMS, which delayed the vaccination. Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has set up 18 session sites for the vaccination where walk-in registration is not allowed. Many made repeated attempts to register themselves even as the portal crashed. “I was sitting outside Santoshi School for three hours for my turn. But when I approached the registration table they informed me that they could not find my name in the system because I did not get a second SMS showing the appointment timings. I was asked to register again,” said Purvi Dave (27), a company secretary by profession. tnn

Image used for representational purpose only RAJKOT: After days of nightmarish wait to get admission into the civil hospital, there was some respite in Rajkot as the number of new cases in the government and private hospitals reduced by around 15% in the last three days. The long queues of vehicles and ambulances on the Chaudhary High School ground also reduced from average 50-60 vehicles to just around 10 in three days. There was also a significant reduction in number of patients at Covid OPD of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (PDU) Hospital (Rajkot civil hospital). According to hospital officials, there is 28% reduction in OPD patients.

For the past several days in Surat, Athwa and Varachha-A zone offices of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) have been witnessing long queues as citizens have to go through the bureaucratic process in the scorching heat to get the death certificates. On Tuesday, at Athwa zone office in Adarsh Society the rush to get the death certificates was so much that the civic body had to start two more counters to handle the crowd.

RMC provided waste land to the NGO for cremation Rajkot: A crematorium in Rajkot has helped save nearly 32,000 kg or roughly 32 tonnes of wood in the last five days by using cow dung cakes As Covid-19 cases spike and the number of deaths spiral every day, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) requested a non-government organization (NGO) to cremate bodies using dung cakes and sticks instead of wood in a bid to protect the environment. About 400 kg wood goes into cremation of one body but use of cow dung cakes and sticks reduced the requirement to just about 70-80 kg. “We have cremated nearly 100 bodies using dung cakes along with wood since April 21 after getting a request from RMC. Roughly, this has helped save nearly 30 tonnes of wood,” said Vijay Dobariya, head of Sadbhavna Vrudhashram, the NGO which is actively engaged in tree plantation in Rajkot city and villages too.
