This will be the first time that Saurashtra’s financial capital will get air connectivity to the state known for its pristine beaches. Rajkot is also set to get one more flight to Mumbai from March. Airport officials said that they have got confirmation that SpiceJet was starting one daily flight to Hyderabad from March 1 and another to Mumbai from March 7. According to sources, the airport authority has also got in principle confirmation on SpiceJet starting a direct flight to Goa from March. The private airliner has sought permission from Rajkot airport. The flight is likely to operate four days a week. Being the business hub of Saurashtra region, traders and industry players in Rajkot have been demanding better air connectivity to other major cities of the Country. The couple belongs to Vanakbara Koli Gnati Samaj RAJKOT: A young couple in Veraval has been allegedly ostracised by its community for tying nuptial knot without seeking permission from community leaders. Piyush Baraiya, 27, had married to Minaxi in April last year. Their marriage was registered next month with Randhiya gram panchayat of Amreli district. The couple which belongs to Vanakbara Koli Gnati Samaj says it is going through an ordeal since then. Its common in the fishermen community that such ostracised families cannot do fishing and have social transactions with other community members, the couple said. Nine different sub communities under the umbrella of Koli community are engaged in fishing in Amreli. In order to get married, the community members have to get ‘lagan chithi’ (marriage permission) from the community leaders.

RAJKOT: Ten years after a jetty came up on government land in Okha, president of a local fishermen’s body was booked under the land grabbing law on Tuesday. Based on the complaint of the circle officer of Dwarka executive magistrate’s office, Devbhumi Dwarka police lodged an offence against Isa Isaq Sanghar at Okha Marine police station. During the investigation by the circle officer, it had come to light that Sanghar, who is president of Sagar Machhimaar Mandli Ltd, had encroached upon a road and built offices and facilities to dry fishes on one side a jetty on the other side. When questioned, Sanghar had admitted that the fishermen’s body had constructed all facilities.
