MUMBAI: With Covid cases in Maharashtra plateauing for over a month now, the state government on Thursday approved easing of curbs in 25 of 36 districts, including reopening malls and multiplexes, extending hours for restaurants and shops, and permitting dining out on weekends.
The government will also relax the limit for gatherings at social and cultural events, but all restrictions will continue to apply on Sundays.
The 25 districts where relaxations will be effective include Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Nagpur where Covid-19 indicators like positivity rate and case growth rate are lower than the state’s average. The remaining 11 districts Pune, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Raigad, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Beed and Ahmednagar have a higher weekly positivity rate and case growth rate than the state average.

MUMBAI: With the state reporting a marginal rise in Covid-19 cases, the daily positivity rate in Mumbai dropped below 1% for the first time in the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the initial days it used to be over 30%.
The BMC Covid-19 update on Thursday said that 340 persons tested positive out of 35,393 tested, a positivity rate of 0.96%.
After adding fewer than 7,000 cases every day for six days, the state added 7,242 cases on Thursday, taking the total to 62.9 lakh, of which 7.34 lakh were in Mumbai.
While the state reported a dip in fatalities to 190 from on Thursday from over 250 in the previous days, in Mumbai deaths rose to 13 from single digits in the previous days.

Mumbai: Maharashtra government on Thursday announced relaxation in lockdown in 25 districts including Mumbai and Thane. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Covid Task Force and public health department officers, which was chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The state will issue detailed guidelines in the next two days. The government is also contemplating allowing Mumbaikars, who have taken both doses, to travel in local trains. However, the final decision on it would be taken by the end of this week.
