JAIPUR: A man worth his weight in gold! That was Lal Bahadur Shastri. Just how much did he weigh? Going by the heap of gold stored in the Udaipur Collectorate treasury, the answer is 56 kgs. About 55 years after the death of the former Prime Minister, this gold will be handed over to the government.
This was meant to weigh the late Prime Minister 56 years ago. The Sessions Court in Udaipur on Friday directed that the gold should be handed over to the Central GST Department. In 1965, the gold collected was worth Rs 4.76 lakh. Now, it is valued at around Rs 27.69 crore.
The jewellers wanted the Modi government to scrap the .25% duty on the import of rough gemstones.

JAIPUR: The Union budget has failed to bring a sparkle to Jaipur’s gem and jewellery industry which has an annual turnover of about Rs 5,000 crores. While the reduction in import duties on gold and silver is a big positive move, most Jaipur jewellers are disappointed as the removal of import duties on rough coloured gemstones, which they were demanding for a long time, has not been met.
Routes have been finalised after heated discussions between farmers and police officials, who are on high alert. Numbers are difficult to estimate, but thousands are set to march on Delhi, NCR roads.

JAIPUR: The coronavirus positive status of a 32-year-old woman has left the medical fraternity in Rajasthan baffled and shaken. Sharada Devi, who has been living at a shelter for the homeless in Bharatpur district, had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 28 last year and is yet to be declared negative. Despite 31 tests in the last five months, she still remains a coronavirus positive patient.
The woman had come to Apna Ghar organisation, shelter to over 3000 homeless persons, last August. Her condition at that time was very feeble and she was also the first person to test positive for coronavirus at the shelter.

JAIPUR: Vasundhara Raje s absence from the first meeting of the Rajasthan BJP’s core group on Sunday has stoked controversy in the political circles of Jaipur. Though officially Raje was reportedly away due to family commitments, most veterans see this as a royal snub from the former chief minister and national vice-president whose political future in the state has been much-discussed in recent months.
The BJP’s core group for Rajasthan, comprising 12 members and four special invitees, has been formed as an effort to stop the infighting among the senior leaders of the state unit which threatens to damage the party in the future. Despite being sidelined in the past two years, Raje was included in this group in a bid to patch up the rift within the Rajasthan BJP, especially between Raje loyalists and the RSS faction headed by state BJP president Satish Poonia.
