Hospital beds being increased, Tamil Nadu braces for impact as second wave of Covid infections hits
Tamil Nadu is adding beds to its government hospitals in an effort to combat the second wave of Covid-19 infections. The state is looking at a shortage of medical oxygen if the Centre does not revise its quota, a top official told the Madras HC.

Tamil Nadu on Thursday logged a high number of fatalities, with 195 more people succumbing to COVID-19. This took the toll to 14,974. The State added 24,898 more cases, taking the tally to 12,97,500.
Chennai accounted for the most number of deaths at 69, taking its toll past the 5,000-mark. A total of 5,021 people have died due to COVID-19 in the city. Chennai reported 6,678 fresh cases, taking its tally to 3,70,596.

Chennai, May 5 : The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday demanded opening up of the Rheumatology Block with 120 beds with oxygen supply facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital here.
In a statement Ramadoss said at a time when the number of Covid-19 patients are increasing and there is a shortage of beds with oxygen supply facilities it is not known why the Rheumatology Block at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital is not open to admit the coronavirus affected patients.

CHENNAI: Multiple hospitals in Chennai are now witnessing a situation similar to what was seen in Delhi and Gujarat a week ago where patients couldn t access beds or proper oxygen supply.
Videos shared by city residents on social media showed lines of ambulances with Covid patients, queuing up in front of government hospitals for admission.
Similar incidents played out at Omandurar Government Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, and Stanley Government Hospital.
Many complained that they had to wait for up to two hours to get admitted to the hospital even as the oxgyen saturation of their kins were dipping to dangerous levels.

Total case-load mounts to 11,86,344; Health Department details bed availability in daily bulletin
Tamil Nadu saw a further surge in COVID-19 cases on Saturday with 19,588 persons testing positive, taking the tally to 11,86,344. In the last 24 hours, 147 persons died 92 at government health facilities and 55 at private hospitals taking the toll to 14,193.
As many as 17,164 persons were discharged after treatment. This brought up the total to 10,54,746. Now, 1,17,405 persons are under treatment, either at home or at hospitals.
