RAJAHMUNDRY: A man named Kalyanam Venkanna who was in remand at Rajahmundry Central Prison, accused of physically torturing his two wives, committed suicide on Tuesday.
According to jail superintendent Raja Rao, Venkanna from Chatti in Chintoor mandal in East Godavari district, was arrested after his wives complained to the police over his physical harassment and torture.
Chintoor police arrested the accused on April 19th and sent him on remand to Rajahmundry Central Prison, as the case was under investigation.
Fellow inmates found him hanging with a towel around his neck in the bathroom on Tuesday morning and informed prison officials about it. Police have sent the body for post mortem and speaking to the inmates for further information.

Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy handed over 50 oxygen cylinders supplied by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) to Gandhi Hospital Superintendent M. Raja Rao here on Sunday.
Mr. Reddy thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO chairman G. Satheesh Reddy for immediately responding to his request and converting the nitrogen cylinders used for missile development into oxygen cylinders. Another 50 cylinders will be coming in tomorrow, he said and urged citizens to help the governments break the transmission chain by practising social vaccine of wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and hang hygiene.

Hyderabad: The superintendent of Gandhi hospital has asked the security and police personnel posted at the institution’s gates to admit patients for COVID-19 without insisting for an RTPCR test report. Superintendent Dr. Raja Rao issued a directive on April 21 asking the police and security personnel to not stop any vehicles/ambulance from entering the premises. He also asked all doctors there to admit patients without insisting for a report as well.
