Students protest against cancelling exams amid spike in corona cases

LAHORE: Dozens of students staging a protest demonstration Monday demanded cancellation of Cambridge’s O and A level examinations in Pakistan.
The students gathered outside the Punjab Assembly, at Chairing Cross on The Mall, and shouted slogans demanding cancellation of the examinations in the wake of alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. The protest also caused a traffic mess on The Mall and adjacent roads for quite some time.
In the late evening, Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz also held a dialogue with some of the protesting students and assured of taking up the issue at the NCOC meeting today (Tuesday).

Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has completed interviews for filling the vacant posts of the vice chancellors (VCs) of four public sector universities in the province.
As many as 164 candidates were interviewed by the committees for the appointments.
According to officials of the department, four new VCs would be appointed in the province’s universities. The posts are vacant in the University of Chakwal, Kohsar University Murree, Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib and University of Mianwali.
“A total of 226 candidates applied for the posts of VC, out of which 164 candidates were shortlisted for interviews,” an official of the department told The Express Tribune.
‘PDM wants to destabilise country’

LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz has said PDM leadership is completely unaware of the history of the subcontinent and it wants to destabilise Pakistan by promoting regionalism and provincialism in the country.
According to a press release issued here Tuesday, the minister said that Punjab was the land of brave and courageous people and it always welcomed all with open arms. Punjab is the land of sensible and dignified people, he said and added that Mahmood Achakzai’s allegations against Punjab were baseless and away from reality.
Mahmood Achakzai should criticise Sindh and Balochistan rather to criticise Punjab. It is an historical fact that Punjab has always rejected any type of support for English and other invaders in history, he said and alleged that PDM leadership was plotting against the sovereignty of the country by promoting provincialism and criticising state instit
