Bird flu: 12 epicentres identified in four states
After the confirmation of positive reports of H5N8 virus (a variant of avian influenza) from NIHSAD, the 12 epicentres have been identified in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.

Several states have sounded an alert to contain the H5N8 strain of bird flu and sent samples for testing. Meanwhile, Kerala began culling of chickens and ducks.
After the confirmation of positive reports of H5N8 virus (a variant of avian influenza) from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the 12 epicentres have been identified in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.

VIJAYAWADA: Dr. Amarendra Kumar, Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, clarified that there is no bird flu in Andhra Pradesh and people need not worry. Only a few states like Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have bird flu cases and so far no cases of bird flu have been reported anywhere in AP, he said in an interview with Sakshi on Wednesday.
Review meetings with officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry across the districts in the State were conducted and the poultry industry has also been put on high alert to report any cases of brid flu.

A sessions court in Rajasthan’s Kota town on Thursday remanded former Baran Collector Indra Singh Rao in one-day custody of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which arrested him on Wednesday on graft charges. He was removed from the Collector post on December 9 after his Personal Assistant was caught red-handed taking a bribe of ₹1.40 lakh allegedly on his behalf.

Paralysed below the neck, 21-year-old Tuhin Dey writes exams holding a pen in his mouth and operates his mobile phone and computer the same way. This has not stopped him from getting admission to a prestigious engineering institute.
Tuhin, who suffers from cerebral palsy, secured Rank 438 in the JEE (Mains) this year and got admission in information technology at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in West Bengal s Shibpur.
Tuhin has so far undergone 20 surgeries and several plates have been inserted into his body to keep his bones straight.
A resident of Midnapore in West Bengal, Tuhin prepared for the exam at a coaching institute in Rajasthan s Kota.
