Southeast Queensland was smashed by severe thunderstorms on Wednesday evening, with giant hail, 100,000 lightning strikes, flash flooding and damaging winds.
Brisbane’s peak-hour traffic was thrown into chaos with suspended trains, traffic light outages, flash flooding and hour-long delays to commuters through key inner-city routes.
Energex reported about 11,000 properties without power at 6.30pm, most on the Sunshine Coast.

A woman suffered critical head injuries when she was hit by a car on Monday night in Brisbane.
Police said a grey Mazda 3 was being driven southbound along Ipswich Road at Woolloongabba about 1.30am when a woman reportedly walked onto the road and was struck by the car.
The woman remains in Princess Alexandra Hospital.

A 67-year-old man driving the car was not physically injured.
Police appealed for anyone who saw the accident, particularly drivers in cars seen travelling behind the Mazda, to come forward.
