ROCKFORD Amid freezing temperatures and snow flurries, hungry men and women stood in line Thursday to receive a Christmas meal from Rockford Rescue Mission workers.
The organization s annual Christmas meal provided about 500 ham dinners with all the trimmings to-go to community members and provided a meal inside for the mission’s crisis guests and residents of their long-term Life Recovery Program. It s been a spiritual awakening, said Tim Delli of McHenry County. Delli has been recovering from addiction at the Rockford Rescue Mission for the last two months.
Teresa Reverts, a worker at the Rockford Rescue Mission, handed out the to-go Christmas meals outside the building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
