Lucknow, May 17 : Rakesh Rathore, a BJP MLA from Sitapur district, has hit out at his own government in Uttar Pradesh, saying that lawmakers like him do not have any freedom to speak the truth. This may lead to a sedition charge against me, he said while talking to reporters. I have taken many steps, but what is the stature of legislators? If I speak too much, then sedition charges may be invoked against me, he said when asked about getting trauma centre opened in the Sitapur.

SITAPUR/LUCKNOW: The BJP s Sitapur MLA has become the latest to join the list of ruling party lawmakers in Uttar Pradesh who have expressed resentment over COVID-19 management in the state, saying he feared a sedition charge for speaking up. What standing do MLAs have? If we speak too much, treason and sedition charges will be slapped on us as well, Rakesh Rathore told reporters last week, according to a video clip which surfaced Monday.
In a video, he is heard asking “Do you think MLAs can say anything?”
Rakesh Rathore, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh, has said that he could face a sedition charge if he spoke too much.
In a video apparently showing him answering a reporter’s question about the COVID-19 pandemic last week, Mr. Rathore was asked about a medical facility that was awaiting inauguration and whether he had done anything to have it opened. “What is the stature of MLAs? If I speak too much, then sedition charges will be invoked against me,” he is heard responding.
