Softball slump continues against Louisiana

Texas State softball s (27-8 overall, 9-5 Sun Belt) struggles continued from April 17-18 with a 2-1 series loss to the No. 14 University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin Cajuns (34-7 overall, 16-2 Sun Belt). A 7-5 victory over Baylor University on April 14 provided a base for a resurgence after suffering a series sweep against the University of South Alabama, which squashed hopes of a program record-breaking 19th consecutive win. The series started strong for the Bobcats, who won the first game of the April 17 doubleheader 5-1. Louisiana opened the scoring in the fourth with an RBI sacrifice bunt from junior utility player Melissa Mayeux. The Ragin Cajuns struggled with hitting until the run, registering only two hits.

Ragin Cajuns senior Ellyson named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week | 103 7 The Game | Acadiana s Sports Station

LAFAYETTE – Summer Ellyson has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week. The former Teurlings Catholic star earned a total of three wins in matchups against Troy and Texas State. In 18 innings of work combined against the Trojans and Bobcats, Ellyson gave up only five runs, scattered 13 hits and struck out a total of 22 hitters.   The senior right-hander has now collected SBC Pitcher of the Week honors a dozen times, and has now claimed at least one weekly award in each of the past four seasons. It is also the second weekly award of the 2021 season for No. 13-ranked Louisiana (34-7, 16-2 SBC), joining Kandra Lamb’s honor back on March 30 following a sweep of South Alabama.

Alabama Crimson Tide Softball: Fouts Saves the Tide from Disaster

Montana Fouts was again stellar. “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change”. ~Charles Darwin Once upon a time, there was a man named Nick Saban. He absolutely detested uptempo HUNH football and even protested against it to the media. But when he realized he could not change the direction things were moving, he learned to adapt and make it work to his advantage. Once upon a time, there was a man named Patrick Murphy. He abhorred the changes the NCAA made to the slap and bunt rules in college softball. Yet he still recruits and schemes to the days of yore. What is to become of our newest hero. Will he learn to adapt and thrive? or will he stick to the old ways and go down the drain like

Coach Babineaux on His Role in the Infamous Brawl of 92 [Video]

Louisiana Ragin Cajun associate head baseball coach Anthony Babineaux joined me this morning on my show, as he does every Wednesday during the season, to talk all things UL baseball. With the upcoming series at South Alabama coming up, memories of the on-field brawl between the Ragin Cajuns and Jaguars in 1992 has been a topic of discussion, especially after an old video of the fight was shared on social media. Babb was a sophomore on the 92 team. This morning, he reminisced about his role in the 92 baseball brawl between UL and South Alabama, answers the question as to if the animosity is still with him after 29 years, current (and likely future) transfer rules in college baseball, the upcoming series versus South Al, the coveted nasty necklaces, unheralded players, and much more.

49ers had an interest in free agent RB Gio Bernard early in free agency

Photo by Michael Hickey/Getty Images ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the San Francisco 49ers had an early interest in free-agent running back Gio Bernard in free agency before Bernard signed with Tampa Bay. The Niners have been looking for a pass-catching running back since the Kyle Shanahan, and John Lynch regime began but have swung and missed in that category. How early is too early for a running back in this upcoming draft? If Alabama’s Najee Harris is available at No. 43 overall, someone in the 49ers front office may have to tie Shanahan down to avoid taking the top running back in the draft.
