SIR – The Duke of Edinburgh, a man of private faith, also used his role to bring together different faith groups. He founded St George’s House in 1966 as a forum for civil society, faith groups and others to debate significant issues.
For many years he presented the Templeton Prize, which recognised outstanding religious and spiritual leadership. He organised an interfaith dialogue between Jews, Christians, and Muslims in 1984, together with Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and Crown Prince El Hassan of Jordan.
He built on this by founding the Alliance of Religions and Conservation in 1995 to mobilise the great faiths to work on environmental challenges. He had the foresight to see that their moral teachings, and 80 per cent of the world’s population, could be part of the solution to social problems.
The incident happened at Asda in the Cornbow Centre, Halesowen AN ELDERLY woman has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after falling down an escalator in Halesowen. The Midlands Air Ambulance was sent to the scene after the woman fell down an escalator in the Cornbow Shopping Centre outside Asda. The accident happened at 12.49pm today (Monday April 12). A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: We were called to a patient, an elderly lady, who had reportedly fallen down an escalator. She was taken to Russells Hall hospital with potentially serious injuries. A second patient, a man, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution.
The group, Friends of Russells Hall, successfully bided for funding after years of the park being neglected. A grand opening of the newly transformed park was held, with Councillor Cathryn Bayton of St James Ward cutting the ribbon. She said: “We are thrilled with the new play area. Councillors working with the Friends of the Park Group and the residents have delivered a vibrant, and fun play area that will provide stimulating play for children up to early teens and we have ensured that some of the equipment is disability friendly, so no one is excluded. “Russells Hall has had so little investment in terms of community assets, it really was needed for the growing families on the estate. It is just the start though, for the overhaul of the park and we hope to be able to deliver a bit of a revamp to the skate park and see if we can access funding for the basketball court and trim trail. We want the park to be used by the whole community and everyone to feel safe there.
