Nine s talk radio stations are on a tear as Australians returning to work tune in for the latest news and current affairs.
3AW in Melbourne and 2GB in Sydney were both named the number one radio stations in their respective cities after recording their best GfK Survey 1 results in more than a decade.
2GB 873 won the categories of breakfast, mornings, evenings and weekends, boasting a 14.4 per cent audience share and winning the station its best Survey 1 result in a decade.

In Survey 1 of 2020, there were some notable numbers movements – the ABC’s duo of Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck, for example, had a bigger share in 10+ than Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’, an unusual, if unsustainable, phenomenon. In Melbourne, Christian O’Connell got back on top of FM Breakfast, and Robin Bailey’s revival at 97.3FM in Brisbane wasn’t enough to get the station to the top.
Despite the milestones, the survey wasn’t game-changing, and it was the disruption which would come later in the year which would define radio ratings in 2020. COVID-19 led to changes in consumer behaviour, job losses and stand-downs across the industry, and the pause of radio ratings.

A species of moth believed to be close to extinction in Australia was recently spotted close to a rubbish tip by a man walking his dogs.
Naturalist Will Ford, of Wangaratta in northeast Victoria, said he was in a local parkland last December when he caught a glimpse of a moth he didn t recognize. He was able to inspect the moth and took multiple pictures as it was resting on his hand.

Starting the year with a share price of $1.67, the media company whose divisions include broadcast radio and out of home advertising saw its value dip to $1.05 in March and $1.01 in June as the full impact of the pandemic hit advertiser dollars. As of 5 January 2021, HT&E’s share price had recovered to $1.82.
