Trevor Megill Rumors - MLB Trade Rumors

MLB Trade Rumors Megill, 27, entered the professional ranks as a seventh-round pick of the Padres in 2015, but they lost him to the Cubs during the 2019 Rule 5 Draft. Thanks in part to the lack of a minor league season, the 6-foor-8 Megill didn’t pitch a year ago, though he did log solid production among High-A, Double-A and Triple-A in 2019. That year, Megill tossed 60 2/3 innings of 3.86 ERA ball and averaged 10 strikeouts against 1.9 walks per nine. Megill added a 4.32 ERA with 12 strikeouts and two walks in 8 1/3 innings this past spring. Wick was one of the Cubs’ most effective relievers from 2019-20, during which he combined for a 2.66 ERA with a 25.7 percent strikeout rate, a 10.3 percent walk rate and a 48.1 percent groundball rate over 50 1/3 frames. An intercostal strain has prevented Wick from taking the mound this year.

Cubs Roster Moves: Megill Called Up, Wick to 60-Day IL, Adam to Alternate Site

Taking Adam’s spot in the bullpen is last year’s Rule 5 pick-turned-trade acquisition Trevor Megill, all 6’8″ of him. The guy was looking extremely impressive in Spring Training in terms of the velocity and the curveball, with the Cubs trying to get him to spot that four-seamer down at the knees (he’s so tall and he’s got this exaggerated over-the-top delivery that has to make that thing really hard to square up). He couldn’t quite pull it off consistently yet, but maybe he’s improved at the alternate site? Either way, I’m excited to see him back in action.

And Now Matt Duffy Heads to the COVID-Related IL (UPDATE: No Players Have Tested Positive)

Good news update I’ll share up top: According to David Ross (via Russell Dorsey), no Cubs players have tested positive for COVID-19, despite four players showing up on the COVID-19 related IL. That doesn’t mean they can’t still test positive in the near future, but it’s still a good sign. Original post follows. Well, this is neither new nor entirely unexpected, but it is certainly disappointing for all sorts of reasons. After going all of 2020 without any major COVID-related concerns, the Cubs are dealing with a bit of a problem here in 2021. First, first base coach Craig Driver tested positive for COVID-19. Then, Cubs bullpen coach Chris Young tested positive for COVID-19 . Then, three relievers (Jason Adam, Brandon Workman, and Dan Winkler) were placed on the COVID related injured list (which, to remind you, does not mean any of them actually tested positive).
