Perez to Beermen deal OK d | BusinessWorld

February 2, 2021 | 5:42 pm Font Size AAA PBA SCORING LEADER CJ PEREZ is headed to the San Miguel Beermen after his trade papers from the Terrafirma Dyip were approved by the league’s trade committee. — PBA IMAGES By Senior Reporter THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Office approved on Tuesday the revised deal sending league scoring leader CJ Perez to the San Miguel Beermen. Submitted for approval last week, the PBA’s trade committee pored over the details of the deal at the weekend before coming up with its decision. The deal has Mr. Perez going from the Terrafirma Dyip to the Beermen in exchange for role players Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Russell Escoto, and Gelo Alolino, along with San Miguel’s first-round rookie picks for this year’s draft  (eighth) and in 2022.

PBA News: Fans want SMB to give up a core player to Dyip in CJ Perez trade

Jan 30, 2021 A NUMBER of PBA fans feel San Miguel should add at least a player from its core for the Beermen’s trade with Terrafirma, with CJ Perez as centerpiece, to be fair. Perez is arguably one of the future stars of the PBA, named Rookie of the Year and earning a spot in the First Mythical Team in 2019, which is why several fans were outraged by the move of Terrafirma to trade its star player to powerhouse San Miguel for Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Russel Escoto, Gelo Alolino and a first-round draft pick or this year. San Miguel coach Leo Austria and Terrafirma team governor Bobby Rosales have already explained their side on why the deal was made, but despite their statement, fans continue to resent the deal, saying it is unfair for the Dyip.

Rosales respects fans opinion on Perez trade, calls it healthy for PBA

However, the amiable team official asked the people to also respect the Terrafirma decision. “That’s understandable, napapatunayan lang natin kung gaano ka-passionate ang Pilipino sa basketball. Mahal nila ang basketball, but samin we look at it positively,” said Rosales when he appeared Saturday on the weekly sports shot The Chasedown on One PH channel over CignalTV. “We encourage them in conversation about issues, it is a healthy situation when fans engage the PBA, the players and the teams. Sa amin we respect their opinion… parati tayo magkakaron ng deperensya, and there will always be two sides to any issue.”
