France, Germany, the Netherlands press for tighter rules in DMA

France, Germany and the Netherlands on Thursday (27 May) released a joint statement calling for a reinforcement of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) in a range of areas, from member states involvement to merger control. The three countries already took a firm stance on the proposal when it was first announced by the European Commission in December 2020. France was especially concerned with the flexibility and the scope of the DMA, while Germany wanted greater leeway for member states to curb the dominant position of tech giants. These concerns have now taken the form of a joint letter to the Commission. The letter is signed by the “Friends of an effective Digital Markets Act” and calls on tightening the DMA in three areas: the involvement of the member states, flexibility and scope, as well as merger control.

Stars want to stay, but Calgary Flames eyeing major changes

Four days after Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving addressed reporters following the conclusion to the team’s disappointing season, the Flames declined comment on his status within the organization. When asked about his job security last week, Treliving said that he’d meet with ownership as he normally does after every season. On Tuesday, the Flames said they couldn’t provide any details on if those meetings had taken place. Treliving’s contract runs through the end of the 2022-23 season. “I’m sure that we will over the course, as we usually do at the end of the season,” Treliving said after players cleaned out their lockers last week. “Today was about getting through player meetings and all those types of meetings and we’ll go through the regular review, but have not done that as of yet.”

Neither team will make the North Division playoffs, yet have three games remaining against each other as they play out the string. We want to win the last three games, so that s how we approach it, Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson said. Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk each had a goal and an assist for the Flames (24-26-3), who could still finish above .500 if they win out.
